Just finished reading The Remains of the Day.

It's like I'm paralysed now. What activity could I possibly follow that up with?

Whenever I read or watch something so disruptively good, there's a small part of me that wishes I hadn't, just because of how it leaves me.

I haven't read that one, but it's on My List. I read two of his other books, When We Were Orphans and Never Let Me Go, and loved them. His writing is so smooth and flawless that I almost didn't notice it at first. I just feel like it carries you along until you get halfway through the book and realize you're caught and can't put it down. He is definitely a writer that, when I read anything he's written, I feel like I might as well not even bother writing because nothing will ever come close. *sigh*

I've read Never Let Me Go as well and even though I loved it, I'm not sure I could face re-reading it. And, yes, I so wish I could write like he does! I admire that style so much.

This.

At the risk of sounding frivolous, some fic leaves me with such helplessness, too.

I don't think that's frivolous at all. :)
